Hi all, I've had numerous problems with Deskscpes. Most of them I've been able to fix myself but this one is really annoying. It now no longer plays ANY dream I download. When I select a dream to play, I get the ususal spike in cop usage (this happened before when it did work as it was applying the dream but went back to normal afterwards) but it doesn't play the dream. I've tried restarting after installation/updating, restarting after applying a dream and updating my video drivers. Nothing has worked so far and I'm puzzled as to why. Although when I set a normal .wmv to my background, I get the spike in cpu usage, the background goes blank for a while but then just returns to my normal desktop picture. I'm using vista home premium x64 and deskscapes version 2.00.052. Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure the drivers are up to date for your video.

Then download the latest codec: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/VirtualDub-MPEG2.htm

See if that does the trick for you.

I've already said that I have the latest video drivers but I'll try the codec.

*Edit*

Nope, nothing, tried it before and after restart. I have a feeling that the application itself is a little messed up because when you select a dream it gives you the option to adjust performance settings and with a dynamic dream adjust the dynamic dream settings. It gives me those options but they disappear after anything between 0.5 and 2 seconds (approx.).

What happens when you attempt to load the dream? Does it apply anything at all?

No, nothing happens. I just see my normal background

Did you orginally get the Deskscapes you are loading from the website or through Stardock Central? If you got it from the website try uninstalling it and getting the latest version through Impulse. If you only got it through SDC or Impulse give us a shout a support@stardock.com.
